Dogen Sutra Study
with Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison
Wednesdays, September 9th - December 23rd, 2020 from 4:15pm-7:15pm
Known in English as the Flower Garland Sutra, this compelling sutra is considered one of the most influential Mahayana texts and is held in high regard by Buddhists of all traditions. Often described as “holographic” and “psychedelic”, it is also known as the most grandiose, comprehensive, and beautifully arrayed of the Buddhist scriptures.
Drawn from a number of independent sources that were combined in the late third or early fourth century CE, it brings forth teachings on the progress toward liberation and the visionary powers of meditation.
Through study and practice we will dive into this sutra’s discussion of topics including the Buddha’s awakening, the Four Noble Truths, interdependence, and the spiritual journey.
